Answers to common questions about group insurance and how we work with you.
General information
Our specialization in group benefits provides several advantages. Having focused on group insurance since 1987, we bring deep expertise in plan design, carrier negotiations, regulatory compliance, and ongoing service. As an independent agency, we represent your interests rather than any single carrier, which lets us give objective guidance and compare offerings from multiple carriers.
Our relationships with financially stable carriers, built over decades, help us secure competitive rates and advocate effectively for you. We see ourselves as strategic partners rather than transactional vendors, and we take time to understand your circumstances and goals.
We are compensated through standard industry commissions paid by insurance carriers. These commissions are included in premium rates and are not an additional cost to you, so our advisory and service support comes at no direct cost.
This structure aligns our interests with yours: we succeed when we help you secure the right coverage at competitive rates and provide service that earns your continued partnership.
We work with organizations of many sizes, from small businesses with 2 to 10 employees to mid-sized companies with several hundred. Group size affects available products and pricing, but our consultative approach and service commitment stay the same.
Every client receives the same attention, strategic guidance, and ongoing support, whether you have 5 employees or 500.
Coverage and plans
We provide access to several plan designs: traditional PPO plans that offer flexibility to see any provider, HMO plans that emphasize coordinated care through a primary care physician, and high-deductible health plans paired with health savings accounts that offer tax advantages.
Each plan type has distinct advantages, and we help you evaluate which fits your organization’s needs, budget, and employee preferences, considering provider networks, cost-sharing, premiums, and tax implications.
Yes. While carriers set the basic plan framework, many elements can be customized, including deductibles, coinsurance, copays, out-of-pocket maximums, covered services, and employer contribution strategies.
We design packages that balance comprehensive protection with your budget, competitive position, and employee demographics, so the program fits your organization rather than a standard template.
Coverage decisions weigh industry norms, competitive positioning, budget, workforce demographics, and employee preferences. We guide you with market data on typical offerings in your industry and area, cost modeling at different coverage levels, a look at how employees use their benefits, and a discussion of your talent goals.
This evaluation helps you balance adequate protection with fiscal responsibility.
Process and implementation
Timelines depend on program complexity, organization size, and whether you’re starting benefits for the first time or changing carriers. A typical implementation takes 4 to 8 weeks from carrier selection through completed enrollment.
That includes carrier underwriting (1 to 2 weeks), proposal review and decisions (1 to 2 weeks), system setup and documents (1 to 2 weeks), and employee communication and enrollment (2 to 3 weeks). We manage each phase so implementation stays smooth and on time.
Initial analysis needs employee census information (dates of birth, ZIP codes, coverage tier elections), current benefits documents if you have them, claims experience if available, and your budget parameters. We provide templates and can help organize the data.
This lets us develop accurate proposals tailored to you. All data is kept confidential and used only to develop your insurance proposals.
We provide full enrollment support: clear employee communication materials, enrollment meetings on-site or online, individual consultations as needed, and help with enrollment administration, so every eligible employee understands their options.
Support is tailored to your workforce. Some clients prefer group meetings with individual consultation hours; others prefer detailed written materials with limited meeting time.
Ongoing service and support
Our service continues well beyond implementation: help with employee questions, claims advocacy when issues arise, compliance guidance on ACA, COBRA, and HIPAA, new-hire enrollment, annual plan reviews and renewal management, and proactive updates on regulatory or market changes.
You always have a knowledgeable partner available to address issues promptly.
We monitor renewal timelines and begin renewal analysis 90 to 120 days before your renewal date. We review plan performance and claims experience, assess market conditions, negotiate with your current carrier, and request competitive proposals when it makes sense.
You get a clear renewal recommendation with rate analysis, plan design options, and alternatives, with enough time to decide without pressure.
We act as your advocate with the carrier, whether the issue is a claims dispute, a coverage question, a billing discrepancy, or a service concern. Our relationships and knowledge of carrier operations often get issues resolved faster than an employer could alone.
We investigate, coordinate with carrier representatives, track progress, and keep you informed until it’s resolved.
